We are happy to announce the release of our Trezor Pass Vault for Windows. Now available in the Microsoft Store!

So for a few months now, we've been diligently testing and getting ready to launch our password manager for both Desktop and Android using Trezor.IO's hardware wallets. Before we could launch though we hit a snag. A critical vulnerability was announced where if someone had physical access to the hardware wallet they could potentially access data.

Reading this back and forth in the community it is certainly dissapointing, but not insurmountable.

When initially writing our password manager implementation there were a few design goals:

• Provide a strong offering of the functionality the Chrome plugin has provided.
• Keep compatibility with that same Chrome plugin.
• Provide ubiquitous access so that where the Chrome plugin couldn't be, access to that data could be provided.

This has left us with the quesiton of what to do?

After careful consideration, the approach we are moving forward with is to continue our release. We do however, intend on offering an option within Trezor Pass Vault post release which will break compatibility with the Chrome Plugin. This new option will bring passphrase functionality to the Trezor Pass Vault so that physical access won't be enough to access your data in the password manager. This means that SLIP-0016 compatibility will be sacrificed and compatibility with the Chrome plugin, but we feel this capability provides a responsible way to protect our customer's assets.
